The Jeremy Piven Movie Marathon: A Viewer’s Guide

Piven’s most recent film is Last Call, in which he stars as Mick, a prodigal real estate developer who returns to his struggling Philly neighborhood with plans to build a new casino. He finds himself drawn closer to his friends and family, including childhood crush Ali (played by Orange is the New Black star Taryn Manning), who accuses him of forgetting where he came from.

The film is a dramedy with a bit of heart, and it captures the ethos of a working-class neighborhood in decline that’s trying to hold on to its roots while refashioning itself for the future. It’s a soft-headed comedy-drama with the profundity and wit level of one of those joke signs you see above bars, but it’s an excellent showcase for Piven.
